There are several case studies on aripiprazole 5mg to 15mg for treatment of developmental stuttering. If you have access to scholarly journals, you can search it up on scholar.google.com or find the doi and stick it in sci-hub. My doctor says that case studies aren't "valid enough evidence" for an Rx, so I've had to turn to other sources unfortunately. She is completely right to not prescribe it to me and I understand her point of view. But to me, it's worth looking into and seeing if it has any effect on my fluency. I just started taking it this week (at 7.5mg [split 15mg]) and haven't noticed any major adverse effects. I have noticed that _possibly_ my secondary behaviors are reduced but I can't say with any certainty that it has reduced my stutter yet. I'm only on day 4 though. This might just be a placebo, but I feel like it's brought me less anxiety specifically related to speaking, i.e. it's less stressful for me to start a conversation but it's hard to explain in words the exact feeling. I'm currently documenting my experience with it on a daily log. I did experience some nausea on the first day but have not experienced that yet. > If it is helping, it means you have to depend on it for the rest of your life? If it makes any reduction in my stutter, I'm going to for sure take it for the rest of my life. Here are some suggested readings if you're interested: * Read the toxicity/safety information here: https://pubchem.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/compound/Aripiprazole#section=Antidote-and-Emergency-Treatment * It is worth noting that aripiprazole can be very dangerous _especially_ among some populations (e.g. sudden death has occurred; NMS; like other antipsychotics, tardive dykinesia has been reported after taking aripiprazole) * Case report of aripiprazole for persistent developmental stuttering DOI: 10.1097/JCP.0b013e31817ea9ad * There is another case study on developmental stuttering but I can't connect to my university's library system at the moment.
