Here were the replies to above post from other people: **Reply #1:** GOSH!!! Someone who finally gets it and knows where Im coming from---f0r once!!! I experience the same thing!! Therapy techniques in real world----forget it.....a conversation is fast paced and spontaneous!!! Here's the deal...............hearing a faucet running from a little far away---focusing on that sound of rushing water loud enough makes me unstutter......no trace of trouble........hearing a heater next to me...........no stutter..............running a shower and hearing the shower is no stuttering..........plugging in a pair of headphones into my laptop while a video is playing from youtube and focusing on the speakers voice is NO stuttering...........turning on the TV and focusing on the voice of the other person speaking when its loud enough on it is NO stuttering.................all these examples make me unable to stutter.........without all of these example -I literaly cant speak because of very very heavy stuttering................extremely loud music in my head to mask my voice.........NO stuttering!!!!!!!! Expand on this!!!! Hearing the sound of a flushing toilet in my left ear --no stuttering at all.............when I take a pee---that sound of urine going into the toilet....I never stutter EVER when I hear that sound...but when I'm done going the sound is obviously stopped and I go back to being unable to talk............ Going outside and hearing voices from far away or music from far away and focusing on that....no stuttering...........I WANT ANSWERS AS TO WHY!!! and how can we get these results when out and about....headphones that deliver such noise must be so costly.............. And that's why I never rely on those therapy techniques--they sound un natural as stuttering.....and in a spontaneous environment...one never really focuses on techniques...but they focus on the conversation and wanting to get a word in edgewise.....techniques should NOT be taught due to the fact they are useless in real conversation.........and therapists should realize this................ ANd when I stutterspeak there is absolutely no echo to my voice in my left ear...with a tiny echo if I spoke things would be stutterfree...............hearing the sound of the wind or cold wind in my left ear outside works wonders and helps me NOT stutter a bit.............. **Reply #2:** Wow, thank you for sharing. for me it's a whole different story. I stutter worse in a crowded place or where there is too much noise including music, I remember this other time I was in a club with my friends,I couldn't utter a single words the blocks were just too much but when we went to the bathroom I could talk. Shouting when I talk makes it worse for me, talking while the music is on makes it worse for me. I think I need to hear myself when I talk to manage the stutter
