The time you spend learning ASL could be spent in speech therapy. I am a mod-severe person who stutters. I also know ASL. One can still be a good communicator and stutter. I would rather speak and stutter openly with the ability to communicate with everyone than find a niche community to communicate in ASL. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Do what makes you happy.
