Why do stutter techniques sometimes work, and other times they stop working? (in your own words) In my opinion: From what I understand. Triggers like fear, anticipation, tension, breathing from exhaustion (etc) can possibly, in some occassions trigger an approach-avoidance conflict resulting in stuttering on the words/sounds we try to execute \[stuttering-like disfluencies\]. Looking at the common denominator, it may be more accurate to say that these stimuli, in instances where stuttering occurs, are interpreted by the subconscious brain as a signal that “the speech plan is not yet ready for execution” which \[referring to the not-ready signal\] triggers an approach-avoidance conflict, and the observable stuttering manifestations. I think, additionally, that it's important to note that fear or anticipation do not automatically produce this not-ready signal. It likely depends on our past experiences and beliefs — in other words, how the subconscious brain perceives and treats those stimulus and judges it problematic enough to warrant avoidance before speaking. Now, if we go back to **"stutter techniques"**. Techniques primarily target these stimuli, which, as I pointed out, isn't exactly effective to address our unique stutter cycle. Example of techniques: \- breathing techniques can distract us from fear, anticipation or other triggers \[in short: it addresses stimuli\] \- breathing techniques can address the exhausted breathing (I mentioned earlier) \[in short: it addresses stimuli\] \- light contacts can address the tension and other stimuli \[in short: it addresses stimuli\] \- RANDOM desensitization techniques: acceptance. Voluntary stuttering. Exposure. They can address the fear, anticipation or other stimuli \[in short: it addresses stimuli\] \~\~ Conclusion: So many techniques address the triggers; but it doesn’t necessarily resolve our UNIQUE conditioned approach-avoidance mechanism that generates the “not-ready” signal. If techniques primarily target the stimuli (rather than our unique approach-avoidance conflict), then the "not-ready" signal may not effectively be addressed resulting in failing to achieve stuttering remission or subconscious fluency. This is just my own take on it \~\~!\~\~ Your thoughts? https://preview.redd.it/mkcs3orl9lqf1.png?width=288&format=png&auto=webp&s=0a52d7955e2a3ff8ad152ac8eeecbccab114fce1
