Sooo while I cannot give specific answer, I've met my wife through mutual friends and it kind of escalated but... As a person with a speech impediment, you're probably a great listener, mostly because you fear to speak too much. You can use to your advantage. Also it may also be the case that stammering is a much bigger issue for you than your date. You definetly can achieve great things, it's just harder but not impossible.
