Thanks for checking in! We had our second meeting last night and I was wondering if I should update here. Everyone seemed to intuitively let him finish his sentences most of the time, with occasional exceptions that seemed to me to be how we would have treated anyone else--for example, suggesting an answer to a question we were all unsure of. He seemed to have loosened up quite a bit, feeling more comfortable speaking amongst the group. There was only one awkward moment, where he mentioned he would have to miss the next meeting because he would be on vacation. I asked him where he was going, and it probably took him about two minutes to get out the answer "Rome." I maintained eye contact the whole time, even though it was a little uncomfortable for me (I mentioned somewhere else here that I find prolonged eye contact uncomfortable in general). He seemed to appreciate it, so while I still don't feel comfortable (and haven't had the opportunity) asking him what he prefers, I got the sense that he wants to be allowed to finish his sentences. I think the group is feeling the same vibe, so I feel good about things for now. I definitely felt more comfortable going into this meeting after hearing from everyone here. So thank you all again for your incredibly helpful feedback!
