I went to a 4 week intensive in Toronto that was based on the well known Hollins program in VA (Intensive fluency shaping program). It was basically like i described. I spoke great in that super supportive environment where i focused and practiced speech for many hours every day. When I came back home the increased fluency slowly faded, as did my desire to keep up with the assignments. They felt like chores, especially because I didnt like how they wanted me to speak. They wanted me to slow down a lot and practice good slower speech until I was ready to increase my rate or something along those lines. It just didnt sit right with me. And you know how to talk just fine. You've been talking and been around talkers all your life. We just get in our own way. Personally, "controlling" my speech sounds just as annoying any therapy program.
