I'm a 20 yr old female stutterer.I am expected by society to be naturally graceful and poised. Most of the time I am exactly that. But once I open my start speaking people know what I truly am.....a strong, confident and well spoken person;despite my stutter. So if you could do the following things that I have done may be you could have some respite. 1.First of all have zero expectations from yourself.Don't overestimate nor understimate yourself. 2.If you don't have money for speech therapy, fine its better that way.,they cost a lot of money and I haven't seen a single speech therapist in my life. 3.Try speaking aloud a long passage everyday for 20 mins continuously.Don't stop doing this even for a day.Never. 4.Don't try to change your natural way of speaking flow.Don't slow down even if people tell you so. 5.Try gaining knowledge as much as possible.Try being a nerd.People will respect you more as a stuttering nerd than they will a stuttering idiot. 6.Try gaining knowledge in varied fields about varied topics so that you have interesting things to say to people. 7.Whenever I come across a guy who stutters the first thing I notice about him is his stutter...but the thing that stays in my mind is how confident he is,how much driven he is and works towards his stutter while also helping others. 8.Its okay to lose hope but don't make it a habit, have some moments but then again come back motivated to do something. 9.Force yourself to be in strange situations, attending phone calls, talking to strangers.Do this everyday, each day till the day you die. 10.Tell people that you stutter so that they are comfortable and can understand your situation better.Ridicule for a stutterer often comes from ignorance about this subject. 11.Stuttering is like any other roadblock that you have to cross. 12.I recently cracked a group discussion and personal interview from a reputed company. And boy,did i stutter.I stuttered but I revealed them beforehand that I do so or they could take this as your sign of nervousness. But tell them also how you are working towards being a better communicator and working towards your stutter. 13.If you need quick results then train your brain to rote learn the expected questions in interviews. It took 6 hours everyday for 25 days of learning the expected answers prior to the interview and I was the only one selected from a 12 member gd group.Even though I stutter i compensate by having a strong vocabulary, great knowledge about the subject, great confidence which I had to build through the course of 1 year by practicing reading aloud to a mirror, talking to starngers, giving presentations, calling to random people posing as a telemarketer etc everyday....not leaving a single day. 14.The hottest guy in our college stutters, the coolest teacher in my high school used to stutter.Ofcourse i remember their stutter and so does everyone, but that is not makes them what they are. They are the coolest people I know and they happen to stutter. 15.Give your 110%....before doing that don't give up.If you have done everything and still are depressed then seek proffessional help, but give it your all before giving up.Life is too short and too valuable to give up for minor inconvenience. (Sorry for my badly constructed English but I think you get the gist)
