Advice for my preschooler Hey all, just found this sub and hoping you all can give me some advice. My husband and his brother have stutters that began in childhood, and my son (3) started this past week. About a year ago, he went through a bout of stuttering but it went away within a week. With it starting up again I’m wondering when we should seek a referral to see an SLP, given that it went away pretty quickly last time. Also, do you have any tips for me to help support him? I read somewhere that you really aren’t supposed to acknowledge it, but when it has happened (without interrupting him) I have been framing it as “Did you get stuck on a word? That’s okay. Let’s take a deep breath together and start again.” He seems to appreciate being able to put words to what happened (“yes, I did get stuck on a word”) but I don’t know if that’s the right thing to do. Thanks for your advice!
