>The fact is you assume people haven't went to therapy with no evidence. Look at the stats on severe stuttering and success of speech therapy. I am not assuming, I am referencing the numerous posts in this subreddit where people have said they haven't tried therapy. >Many people try so hard and still cant fix their stutter and the people here with a mild stutter bully them just because they "fixed" their stutter. I haven't seen any bullying in this sub. More importantly, I haven't seen anyone with a stutter become "fixed." I stutter all the time, people in the stuttering support group I attend all stutter. For me and everyone I know, it has been about managing their condition. >Many places in the world there is not even a speech therapy to begin 100%. Cultural opinions on stuttering and disabilities in general drastically influence people's outcomes. >Yes there are people with a stutter that found a partner but what about the other things. Were they born wealthy? Were their stutter mild? How attractive were they? In my experience, people are attracted to those who believe in themselves. They don't see someone struggling with their stutter, they see someone overcoming it and that is an attractive quality. On severe stuttering. It is fucking horrible and exhausting. Nothing I say aims to understate the struggle that many people face or the daily difficulties they endure in being heard. I worry that some people write themselves off and give up and that becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. I have seen multiple severe stutters get a supportive group of people around them and focus on the small wins and build themselves better, happier lives. That is why I remain positive. I don't dismiss the study. I just flag that it is one limited study where the authors themselves caution on how the results are used.
