My biological dad's side is fine but my grandfather from my mother's side had a severe stutterer. My cousin, also from my mother's side, has a severe stutter but it's improved since I last saw her. My family doesn't think I have stutter even after I had explained to them that I do and I use word replacements, etc to mask it over the years. They say they never notice it and its not a big deal but we stutterers know that its a lot of hard work to get through each day. I remember my childhood clearly - maybe since around 3 yrs old. I was always shy and always afraid because I heard family members laugh at me - not because I stuttered but because I was doing stupid baby like things. This also caused me to become a late speaker and I remember not saying much. My parents didn't think this was unusual but it was. When I started kindergarden a friend of mine noticed that I didn't understand how to speak any english and really took it upon himself to teach me. Not sure where I am going with this but I really think you should talk to your children and have conversations with them even at an early age. One of my friend used to stutter when he was very young but his parents noticed it and sent him to therapy and he's totally fine now - something I really wished my parents had done with me.
