The majority of children grow out of it. My 3 year old has started to stutter. Therapy starts with the parents. Speak slowly, leave pauses, be supportive. It is better for young children to not be directly aware of their problem and let them figure it out. If stuttering continues, they get help around 7. This what the speech language therapist told me. My other two kids went through stuttering patches and grew out of it after 3 months or so. My 3 year old is heading into his 9th month with fluency issues. He is super happy and really talkative. I am hopeful that he can figure it out with our support without direct therapy. Bear in my mind that at 2 or 3, the child still doesn't have all their sounds and are still developing their speech and language skills.
