Mom of a stutterer My 14-year-old son has been stuttering since he was three, with a tendency to prolong his vowel sounds. He received speech therapy from ages 3 to 10 but discontinued due to covid. For the past 4 years my son has has strongly protested getting back into speech therapy and the advice we have received is to not force him to go (you can't make anyone work on something they don't want to). My son gets great grades, has a good group of friends and insists his stutter does not affect him. He also insist that speech therapy does not work...that none of the techniques he has learned does anything. It seems like its easier for him to ignore it. What do I do? Do I continue to push speech therapy on him, or do I let it go? Any other ideas? He starts high school next year, and will get his first job soon. I want to make sure he has tools to deal with his stutter when it becomes a bigger issue for him. Thanks for your time.
