The fact that preference varies just shows how important it is to treat people with stutters as individuals. There's no one-size-fits-all strategy. You have to learn what each individual wants. For the record, I prefer for people not to complete the word. Too many bad experiences with people just going ahead and talking over me—intentionally or otherwise. Plus on occasion, they guess wrong and then I have to correct them.
