Self Introduction and My Method in Alleviating Stuttering Hi all, I've been a person who stutters all of my life. After almost three decades of struggling with stuttering and experimenting with almost every therapy method, I was able to achieve a breakthrough in my fluency in 2014. I'm not cured of stuttering and still experience bouts of disfluency especially when the nerves get high, but I've reached and maintained a functional level of fluency for career and everyday life. I've read every resource about stuttering and experimented with most of the therapy methods, including the traditional fluency-enhancing therapy prescribed by SLPs, William's Parry's Valsava Control Method, Barbara Dahm's Dynamic Stuttering Therapy, John Harrison's Natural Speaking Workshop, and the intense McGuire Programme. I've also participated in speech therapy, Toastmasters, improv classes, daily vocal exercises, and local stuttering support groups. What helped me achieve my breakthrough in fluency is adopting another personality/voice that's drastically different than my regular stuttering voice, and then over time gradually toning down that personality so that it resembles my regular voice but without the stuttering. This approach builds on the well-known concept that PWS rarely stutter when singing or acting in a different role. In order to validate my approach, I conducted daily speech experiment sessions where I built up a fluent yet dramatic personality for myself and, over the course of a few months, toned down that personality to a less dramatic yet largely fluent voice. Feel free to comment here to DM me if you have any questions about the treatment method that I used to alleviate my stuttering. We can also do some voice chats in the Discord group as well. Here's to hoping that we can all regain our fluency back soon!
