Stuttering and the Valsalva Mechanism

Stuttering and the Valsalva Mechanism Earlier today I was smoking and just killing time experimenting with words and sounds at which I usually block. I've noticed that it's always at the point where my airways are completely closed. Trying harder just made my throat tighter and my tongue push harder or lips constrict more, depending on the sound I was trying to pronounce. So I went online and made a simple search for "stuttering mechanism" which took me directly to [this article](http://www.valsalva.org/valsalva.htm) and blew my mind. After reading though it and following some links, I've decided to find some more info on wikipedia or this subreddit, but couldn't find even a single mention. Is this some kind of dis-proven fringe theory that nobody takes seriously? Why does it map 1:1 with what my experience and intuition tells me?
