"Come on............Eileen!" Trouble with words that start with vowels. One of my superiors at my job is named Eileen. Every once in a while I have to give her a phone call and its always so hard to say her name. Mind you once we get talking, it does get easier. I even try to talk to myself a bit before making the call, or if I can I make the call *immediately* after a conversation with someone else so my vocal cords are still loosened up. I guess I have a fairly mild stutter. I do tend to stutter on the phone more than in person, but words that start in vowels are always difficult for me, especially anything beginning with an "I", "E" or "A". I tried the method of saying these words with a delayed onset, like slightly exhaling first and then saying the word, but even then it can be tough. Today was a bit of a rough day, and I find that on days when I'm not able to get everything done, not able to focus, when things aren't going the way I want them to, I end up stuttering a lot more. When I keep my stress under control, give myself credit, slow down my thinking, and use affirmations, the stuttering isn't as bad. And if I do stutter, the way I feel about myself is much better too.
