In my experience, people reflect the energy you project. When you pull back socially, whether because of a stutter, anxiety, or any other internal struggle, others often pull back too. They usually can’t see the real reason for your distance. Most people interpret behavior through the lens of their own experience, so they may assume your quietness or hesitation is about them. They might think you’re disinterested, upset, or simply not open to connection. Over time, this misunderstanding can create a feedback loop where their withdrawal reinforces yours. Maybe this isn't the case.
