I used to work at a drive thru, it was awful. Our headphone set had a static sound that would constantly buzz and it made it very difficult to hear customers orders. Staff would complain to management but they never replaced the headsets. Instead they just made the headsets louder (no volume control btw, they were locked to that setting) which made the horrible static sound even more intense. listening to orders became a nightmare. My own speech difficulties made communication with customers strained, so I quit after working there for 4 months. I felt bad for customers with accents, stutters, soft voices, anything that could make the customer think “she can’t understand me because of my voice”. Truthfully our faulty equipment was largely to blame. I’m not saying there aren’t bad fast food workers, or people who slack off. Just consider that equipment and the sensory assault of a fast food kitchen are factors in the miscommunication.
