Welcome to fluency based therapy. everything goes great in therapy and they assure you that if you just practice your techniques and put in the work, you'll be fluent. I mean, look at how great you sound in therapy!! Oh and when you're out in the real world and for whatever reason can't use your techniques and they dont work, it's just your fault as you need to practice more and techniques obviously work when youre in therapy! It's a crock of shit in my opinion. Fluency shaping definitely works for some people but in my experience and most stutterers I know, it's not going to get you to where you want to be. Trying to control your speech doesn't do anything for the heart pounding, muscle tensing stuff that makes stuttering so painful. In fact, it makes that stuff worse by reinforcing how terrible stuttering is and how you need to be fluent. which is ridiculous on it's face since we are not fluent speakers. We are stutterers and thats ok. But we dont have to suffer when we're stuttering. About your therapy, if you like it keep giving it a shot. But if it's not helping you out outside in your life or if it doesn't feel right, don't be afraid to drop it. I will give you the same advice I keep giving out. #1. Go to the NSA conference (if you live in USA or can fly in). July in Chicago. Just go. It's the best resource you could ask for. #2. www.stuttertalk.com podcast. These guys get it. Really god stuff. Trying to be fluent is only going to get you into more trouble. If you want to use your techniques, use them to try to stutter more easily, because trying to be fluent will only make your heart pound harder. There's no crime against stuttering in spanish or anywhere.
