As a stutterer and mother of two adult sons, my greatest fear was that they would stutter. They do not, but the oldest son has severe asthma and the youngest son is a Type1 diabetic since age 8. Both are serious medical conditions. Of course we consulted specialists, along with our pediatrician. You need to treat your daughter’s stutter the same way… consult a specialist in early childhood speech evaluation and therapy. Don’t wait because you assume she’s too young. Let the specialist decide that. If your pediatrician blows you off, seek a specialist on your own. Don’t try to work with her yourself. Get help. She sounds very sad about stuttering, and rightfully so. It’s more frustrating because at her age she cannot understand the why and the mechanics of stuttering. A specialist can help with early intervention, which is the key to the well-being of a child with any anomaly or illness.
