You are right. Of course people can't have knowledge of how to react in situations which they are strangers to. I believe the zero stuttering awareness thing is a main issue as well. Despite this, it makes me frustrated that it is perceived as a character flaw rather than a disability; something you can work as opposed to something that you can't help. For example if someone struggles with walking, I don't need to know exactly why that is. I can still respect him and not bring it up in the conversation, until he does. I think that this is common courtesy, and applies to a great deal of situations. You are right about that people are uneducated about stuttering, however that does not make it okay to comment on it in any way when it is obvious that the commentee is struggling. Tl;Dr: It is never okay to make remarks that can be perceived as rude when someone obviously struggles with something. **Especially** if you are uneducated.
