I have the same stutter as you, I'll have silent blocks and if I feel like I'm going to stutter, or I do start to stutter I'll change the word. Sometimes you don't have the option to change the word though (like when someone asks you your name), so Ive been doing some excersises that have extremely improved my speech. Keep in mind that to my knowledge there is no way to cure a stutter (except for those lucky few that "outgrew" their childhood stutter by the time they were 18) The first one I do is one I learned as a kid. It's called stretching and pausing. Essentially you stretch out the vowels in each word you say at a slow tempo. I'll also pause every 2 words or so and take a breath according. It looks something like this, if I'm practicing the sentence "I like to eat apples" I'll say it "iii liiiike "*pause" toooo eeeat "*pause" aaaples". I practice using children's books. It's important to take a breath before you start reading the sentence. Another thing I've been trying was talking to a temp. If I feel like I'm going to stutter, I'll tap my finger on my hip or on the palm of my hand while making sort of a loose fist. I read that stuttering effects the coordination section of your brain, and one of the reasons why stutters can sing and rap is because there's a rythem to it. I figued that if I can sing and rap on beat without stuttering, then if I make my own beat I should be able to speak without stuttering. It's something new that I'm trying but so far I've had some pretty positive results. Just remember to do a slow beat, don't beginning doing finger blast beats in the palm of your hand. Other things you can try are stress managers. I've been meditating daily for a few months now and I've found that the reduction of stress has helped out alot. If you're not into meditation you can try at the very least diaframic breathing. When you breath into your chest it triggers the fight or flight response and could put you in an anxious mindset. Even people who don't stutter tend to stutter when they're stressed or anxious, so for us stutters reducing our stress is very important. Keep in mind that these are excersises. The more frequently and consistently you practice them the better the results will probably be. All it takes 15 min a day. I've practiced on and off for years and have found that when I stopped practicing it has always got worse. There will be days that are worse than others, its going to happen. Just accept it and keep on doing the work. Your stutter only defines you if you let it. 😁
