It's my opinion that inadequate therapy is more harmful than doing nothing. It demoralizes. It can introduce more speech ticks and issues. It's more that someone has to correct when they finally get proper help with their fluency. Many of us have got to the point where we've said "Speech therapy doesn't work," Which I believe is a false assumption. But we get frustrated. We've tried inadequate therapy or treatment. We give up. Or we've come up with tricks to get around our stutter, only to have those tricks ingrain themself into our disfluency, exacerbating the problem. I don't think there are any shortcuts or tricks to fluency.
