Stuttering Mom and Stuttering Kid - Advice Welcome Ok, so I have a stutter. Severe as a kid, but it's less noticeable now. My daughter is a little over 3 and what I thought was kid talk has turned into a full blown stutter. And she noticed it too. When I asked her after a particularly bad jam on a "k" sound if she was having trouble speaking, she said, "ugh, I can't get it out." She's pretty mature for her age. Anyway! It gets worse as she gets tired (same with me). But she's young, so I wanted to ask others who have kids who stutter (or just what you would do if you had a kid with a stutter) 1) when did you notice it and 2) when (if) did you (would you) decide to intervene? I have another, older child with dysarthria (oral motor disorder) who is in speech therapy. Myself and my husband have both benefited from ST for our speech disorders (me less so. his was also for dysarthria). But I'm wondering if it's too soon, but at the same time, she's aware of the stutter to some capacity which she clearly expresses in frustration. She loves to talk and is very expressive, but the end of the night I can see she's pissed. I think we all know what that feels like. I just don't want to make the same mistakes my parents did and not talk about it until someone at the school when I was 12 said, uh... maybe this bright student would benefit from some therapy or something. Any anecdotes or personal experiences appreciated! What would you do in my position? Thanks in advance!
