Stuttering makes some people uncomfortable. They don't know what to do while you struggle through a word, and they want it to stop. I think that's why kids usually laugh when another kid stutters, and it's why adults interrupt and change the subject. My family used to interrupt and talk over me all the time, especially my mother and sister. I finally pulled mom to the side and said "when you and [sister] interrupt me, it makes me feel like you don't care about what I have to say; it's the main reason I haven't been visiting and calling as much. You make me feel stupid." She said that they thought they were saving me from the embarrassment of struggling and stuttering. I told her that *I* don't care that I have a stutter. I care that my family hears what I have to say. Since then, communicating with those two has been much easier. Not because I stutter less, but because they listen more.
