I try to talk even when I think I will stutter. Avoiding speaking situations has been a slippery slope for me in the past. I would want to be encouraged to speak more. Maybe don’t frame it as criticism, just as a desire to hear from him more, the stuttering is a non-factor that shouldn’t prevent him from saying what he wants. Of course, this is my opinion based on my own experiences. Maybe he has a completely different perspective.
