College Stuttering Thread Hey guys, I'm a college student who struggles heavily with stuttering and blocking, particularly over the phone and in classroom settings. It comes and goes in waves. Some days I can speak with 80-90% fluency in every situation (which is good for me) and some days I struggle to even communicate effectively with friends in comfortable social situations. I likely stuttered as a small child according to my parents and it resurfaced a number of years ago. I've always been a shy, timid person even before my stutter. I do suffer from massive self-esteem issues because of it but I've put myself out there in incredibly uncomfortable situations per the advice of my former speech therapist and have, thankfully, done alright. I've done interviews with major companies, stuttered the whole way through them, and they were understanding and blessed me with a job opportunity. But the waves still come and go and I also suffer from severe anxiety along with it. I'm relatively new to Reddit and I want this to be a thread for college students who stutter. We can serve as support for each other and talk about our successes and our failures (plus what we've learned from them). There are people that commit suicide over stuttering. Your stuttering does not limit you, and anyone on the outside looking in who thinks it does is a fool. For those of you that know the TV show M.A.S.H. from the 1970s-80s, this episode featuring Charles and Private Walter Palmer, a stuttering but incredibly intelligent young man who is ridiculed for his broken speech. Charles (uncharacteristically) gives him support and helps Private Palmer regain his confidence. Charles' sister is revealed to have a stutter at the end of the episode. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x58eyw9
