Has Anyone Been Rejected From A Software Role Because Of Your Stutter? Some time back a friend made a referal for me for this software related role at a tech company. I got accepted for an initial interview and they wanted me to book an appointment. During the booking, I requested accommodations (extra time) because of my stutter. They asked me how much time I wanted, and then I told them that it takes me double the amount of time (as it would a regular person) to finish sentences, so double the standard time would be great. I feel like ever since I made that accommodations request, they've been acting funny with me. It took them 5 days to confirm an interview date after I made this request.......which is a pretty long time. Usually interviews are set up within 1 or 2 days of acceptance. And the interview was set 10 days ahead (which is again a weirdly long time). 2 days before the interview, the guy reaches out to me and tells me that they are freezing hiring for the moment because they are evaluating some of their open positions and deciding whether or not to keep those positions (because of budget cuts I presume). So the interview was cancelled. Then later when they resumed hiring, I learnt that the role was still there and then they sent a mail saying " we have evaluated your experience for this role and have decided to not move forward with your application ". Has something like this happened to anyone else? They accepted me at first and wanted an interview........and then later rejected me without that first interview. It's like they pressed the restart button on the application process and changed their mind. I can't help but think this was because I told them about my stutter AND because I specified that it takes me twice as long to finish sentences. And whether they thought I would not be able to do the job because of that. I've always thought that verbal communication was not that important in software or any programming role. Because so much communication happens through emails, writing documents, sending messages on discord and slack? I could be wrong.
