Generally, people don't stutter at all when speaking to children and only a bit when speaking to friends and family. As you go up the hierachy of unfamiliar and people in authority, stuttering increases. This is all to do with our underlying thought patterns. If you perceive a "threat" (loss of face or embarrassment), your physical tension increases and thus your stutter. If you are relaxed, you stutter less.
