How do you reconcile accepting yourself as a person who stutters while striving for fluency, which is the absence of stuttering? It's like telling someone it's ok to stutter but the goal of the therapy is to not stutter. It's a total mixed message. If pws to try for fluency that's their prerogative, but most of the time they can't achieve it or it comes at the cost of self expression and communicative joy. I don't think people actually crave fluency. They crave a lack of fear, struggle, and the ability to be themselves without feeling burdened. You can have that with disfluency.
