A story from a non-stutterer I was recently talking to an acquaintance who is a senior executive at a very large international organization, who knows nothing about stuttering other than the average assumptions/knowledge that the general public has. He told me about a group of young junior employees, recently hired, who were required to present to several senior executives. He said the last woman to speak had a significant stutter. His comment was this: "I was so impressed with her. She obviously had a big speech problem, but didn't let it hold her back or get in the way of doing the job. Here she is, 27 years old, presenting to a group of senior executives for the first time and she didn't appear anxious or bothered by it at all." Anyway, I thought it was a cool example of how laypeople often see stuttering, if you just "put it out there"-- they see the stutter, but what they see more is the courage, and it makes a really positive impact on them!
