> Does it take a herculean amount of energy when talking to yourself, alone? Yes, actually. I'm one of those stutterers who experiences disfluency when speaking to myself or my pets, while speaking in a dream, and even sometimes while I'm singing. I know that's more rare than common. But it really drives home how inherent the problem is, as opposed to being just a habit we pick up and never learn to properly let go of, or something driven purely by emotion. It can be a habit (see: Dream Stutter), and it can be driven by emotion (see: Anxiety Stutter), but without the disfluency inherent in us all, those would be incredibly simple to train ourselves out of and overcome.
