If we were to wake up one day and completely forget we had a stutter, would we still stutter (as badly)?

If we were to wake up one day and completely forget we had a stutter, would we still stutter (as badly)? The less focused I am on my stutter, the less severe it is. Example: when I get engrossed in a game while talking over the phone, I stutter very little to not at all since my mind is elsewhere. Sometimes I think a large part of my stutter is due to me thinking about it so much.
