first, the science of stuttering isn't telling us that we can reduce the phenomenon to genes - mostly because the science of stuttering isn't _done_ yet. besides, stutters vary, and there are probably several ways to stuttering. we'll see... second, even if it were just genetics, genes aren't passed around like marbles, so you don't necessarily have to look at your "local" genetic pool to understand something. randomness happens.
