I can see where the discrepancy is. And you make a really good point. But "gamer," "driver" or "golfer" aren't generally associated with something that isn't perceived as normal like stuttering in the context of speech. I think that's where the discrepancy lies and why many prefer the term person who stutters. That's me personally though. In the end, my panties aren't going to get tugged being called a stutterer. It's not worth the stress to worry about it.
