One: Unless they specifically tell you, don’t finish their sentences, it will make them feel rushed Two: Don’t say “spit it out” “take your time” or “relax”, it makes us feel afraid and we stutter more Three: LISTEN! People who stutter often have people not listen to them because of how we talk, so be there Four: Don’t rush him. We can’t control how we talk at all, so just be patient Five: Protect him from bullying. People who stutter very often face teasing, mocking and bullying at school for peers and sometimes even teachers, so protect him. And also set up accommodations like no reading or presentations or no speaking projects Six: Don’t make weird faces. People who stutter get looks from others because of the way we speak, so just be calm as it’s harder for us Seven: If he/she suddenly stops talking but their mouth is kinda open, they are probably having a block, and that’s when you are physically struggling to get the word out. Be there with him but also because when a block happens to stutterers, it a lot of times causes us to not be able to breathe well or at all Eight: Don’t lie.
