Most speech therapists have *no training in treating dysfluency*. Literally none. Asking them to treat it as as helpful as asking a professional makeup artist to determine if the mole on your face is cancerous. The suggestions they give are usually harmful : Take a deep breath (unless you have trained in meditation, it simply reinforces the feeling of panic). Practice articulation exercises (if you can articulate the sounds sometimes, that’s simply avoiding the actual problem). They should have told you up front they have no idea what they are doing. Tim Mackesey is a SLP with training in dysfluency. He’s helped many stutterers(including himself!) learn how to speak with fluency. He had a free podcast that is going to be much better than most SLPs.
