Has anyone else here developed a stutter? Hi, I'm new here and just testing the waters and thought I'd ask if anyone else has had a similar experience to me. My speech difficulties are a relatively new thing that I'm still trying to figure out and get used to. I did not have difficulties speaking as I was growing up, but about 12 months ago I had a bicycle accident and had a serious concussion, with post concussion syndrome which included word blocking and difficulty forming words. I seemed to be recovering from that fairly well but a few months later was assaulted while on holiday. I was struck very hard from behind with a glass bottle, which left me with a split scalp and another nasty concussion. Since then I seem to be really stuck, and a lot of my post concussion syndrome symptoms stopped improving or got worse, which has affected my work and my relationships. My speech difficulties really limit my communication. I hate the sound of my voice when I stutter or slur my words and often get very angry at myself when I have word blocking. I have never had any issue with other people with speech impediments (I worked with many during my years as a disability support worker), but for some reason my own difficulties have really affected my self esteem. I have a neurology appointment in about 6 months to look into what exactly has gone wrong but in the meantime I'm looking forward to trying out some of the suggestions on here to see if I can improve my speech and get over some of these emotional hurdles that it causes me.
