Re: Steve Harvey's recent show where he talked about a "cure" for stuttering and disparaged SLPs Not that I think Steve Harvey is super relevant these days, but I wanted to say something here. There is no "cure" for stuttering and anybody who says otherwise is either misinformed or lying. Lots of young people who stutter are told that they'll "get older and it'll get better," or are shown one of several techniques of questionable clinical validity (like the SpeechEasy device) which they spend a ton of money on for what is for most people a very temporary fix. Knowing that there is no cure for stuttering can help people seek out solutions which can help them to live their lives better with the condition rather than seeking out ways to hide it. Doing what Steve is doing here leads a lot of misinformed people to make decisions which are likely not in their best interests. Please, can SLPs and people who stutter (or at least people who have some knowledge of the subject at hand) have more of a platform? At least, can people try a little harder to listen and learn rather than act like they have some kind of informed perspective on a neurological difference?
