For me, once I've stuttered in a conversation and they ask me about it, most of them are very understanding and even supportive of it. There are some douchebags out there that just outright bully you for it however. People just don't know the struggles we have to live with every day. It's nice that your girl friend said that to you. I would be over the moon if I heard that myself!
