What worked best for you? This is crippling. Hey all, This is my first time posting here, and my first time posting anywhere about my stutter, for that matter. As a little background, I'm 23 and working as a full-time software engineer. I've been stuttering since Elementary school where I received speech therapy, but I was then homeschooled from 6-10th grade and haven't received speech therapy since. I'm sure I don't have to talk about the woes of stuttering or how it's affected my life. I bet it's affected you all the same. The high school I went to was simply amazing - small class sizes and very understanding staff. I'm not sure how I survived college without making a solo presentation or without convincing my teachers I was unfit to present, but I did it. Recently, it's evolved. Everyone thinks of a stutter as t-t-t-t or ssssssss, but lately I can't get any air out at all. I just sit there, frozen, with my face twitching and my throat as tight as ever. I can't speak from that point, I have to stop entirely, take a deep breath, and try again. Typically, this results in another complete block. This is crippling. It's affected my childhood, my teenage years, my college years, and now my professional career. I'm utterly sick and tired of avoiding conversation like the plague when I'm actually a very talkative, humorous individual with a lot to say. What has been the most successful treatment that you've received? Was it speech therapy? Did you buy an ear piece and your speech magically improved? Tell me your story. I want to get some inspiration on where to go from here.
