It's not severe under most circumstances. My confidence grew by surviving many situations at work etc where there was a possibility of me looking like a fool because of my stutter. I eventually found out that with preparation I could do a decent job at speaking in high stress situations. I also found that most people don't care even if I do stutter because it's never affected my professional abilities.
