What does your 504 say? Have you had a discussion with your teacher about your speech? In most cases you should be able to work something out with your teacher regarding your speech especially if you have a 504 in place. For my language classes it was outlined that I was not to be called on in class unless I raised my hand. Additionally, any assignment where I had to speak in front of the class could be done after school alone with the teacher or an alternative such as writing a report could be assigned. It basically made it so my language classes were all writing and reading. I wasn’t graded on speaking portions either. Some teachers will give you a hard time even with the 504 backing you, but I’ve mostly had success with speaking with them after class and letting them know about my disability and that I physically can not speak at times even if I know the answer. If they give you a hard time, you bring out the 504 and approach it that way. In my entire life I only had two teachers who had an issue and they both got reprimanded for it in the end. Language was still my most hated classes even though I always wanted to learn some. I feel for you and it’s not fun. Wishing you the best and don’t be afraid to advocate for yourself to get better treatment.
