You are NOT alone. I am 38, and this is happening to me right now at my workplace. I have had people look at me differently when I speak, but I still make an effort to talk regardless. I know I am intelligent and I have a lot to offer to this world, so nobody is going to shut me up. Also, if possible, try to avoid those people who are putting you down and being intentionally mean. If it's not possible, just tell them that you have a speech impediment and would appreciate it if they treated you with the respect you deserve. I have told a co-worker at my workplace that I have a speech impediment, yet she continues to purposely interrupt me. So my plan of action is to get a formal document saying that I have a speech impediment. That way, it would be easier for me to file a complaint against her. My point is, you have power and control over yourself. Do not let others shut you down.
