The pain affects me in so many aspects of life. Stuttering has closed many doors for me in terms of job opportunities where customer service was a cardinal aspect. I had the potential to be a great sales person. When i ran my own business I had to do telephone duty and it was not uncommon for new clients to just hang up on me. Once i got fired from a job because i did not greet the client goodbye. The reality was I just could not say "Good bye". I can live with the pain of others thinking i am different, but its the most painful when doors close as a result of my stutter.
