I try to maintain eye contact, but I feel bad about it sometimes -- like, they're continuing to stare at me, waiting for whatever needs to come out. Then again, if I don't keep eye contact and there are other conversations going on, a pause in my speech disengages the listener and lets them drift there attention elsewhere ... very frustrating.
