Around your age I was working as a medical biller at a hospital. My cousin actually helped get me the position since she was close friends with the hiring manager. After that job I was hired as an ER registrartion clerk, which I was very good at. Even with my stutter I was the highest collector in the ER dept. That was Gods grace & favor. After that job I was hired as a secretary for a medical transportation company. I was handling regular office duties but my boss would give me HR & payroll tasks to do, and I excelled in that area too. However, I have always hated answering phones because of my stutter. Even now I hate it. I went on to be a Sr. Executive Assistant where I was handling the c-suite calenders and assisting with HR & bookkeeping duties. I have taught myself some tactics on how to answer phones by saying things that come easy to say, like "this is \_\_, how may I help you?" This may sound weird but I like when I work for a business that I can easily say their name which means I can answer the phone a lot easier. We as stutters have to think about the most minor things because it affects us. Some letters I have such a hard time saying like G,J,D,B,C,K,P etc. M,S,H,R,E etc are much easier for me to say. I know my stutter, it's been a part of me my entire life. In grade school teachers weren't smart enough to know that I had a speech impediment and would question why I didn't participate in class or answer questions. I knew the answer I just couldnt say it! Trust me, I know the STRUGGLE of being a Real Stutterer. Learn what works for you. Learn what makes things easier for you to say and go with it. Give yourself some grace, improvise with words, know which words come easier to say. I stutter even when reading the Bible outloud alone. We are going to stutter regardless, but some words come out easier than others. If I am on an important phone call, I remind myself to relax and pause if needed, it helps to maintain a good personality too.
