There’s a difference to getting rejected because of negative traits and personalities, and getting rejected because of a disability you have no control over. It’s like saying that white women die of birth everyday after commenting on a post that black women face 3x the morality rate. Yes, both races will still die, but obviously one is at a significantly higher risk because of something they can’t control. The same goes for people who stutter. There is a reason why stutterers are more likely to experience depression and anxiety. Your experience does not mean it for everyone by the way. So we really need to stop using that “I stutter too and….*inserts harmful opinion* 50% of adults who stutter have faced discrimination like getting defined promotions or jobs because of the misconceptions surrounding stuttering. People who stutter earn 7,000 less annually than those who don’t stutter even with working in the same job. People who stutter are four times likely to not earn a salary compared to those who don’t stutter. 85% of employers agree that stuttering decreases a chance of getting hired. 50% to 81% of people who stutter have been bullied or teased because they stutter. A quarter of people who stutter have been discouraged by a teacher or older person that to pursue certain careers. And 40% to 60% of adult stutterers meet the criteria for social anxiety. 43% of people think stutterers should require roles with minimal speaking. I wouldn’t exactly call this “hypersensitivity”. Like just because you’re a stutterer doesn’t mean you’re automatically right, because I don’t know who “we” is.
