I hate calls, forced introductions, and roll calls. Luckily they don't bother with constant roll in college or work. Take it as a reason to be punctual--the tardy people will always be asked their name and given the stink eye so arrive early and be the onlooking audience. And you're taking it way too hard on yourself because one missed class is nothing--I once skipped like two months of lecture simply because it was too cold to wake up. Be concerned with something else, like how you'll ace a test or catch a nap somewhere. This isn't venting--it's getting across our frustrations and revealing that unseen side. Silent on the outside, fuming inside. Kind of like crusaders silenced by misogynist asses and others told they're constantly inferior or stupid or whatnot and denied a voice. If anything, at least you (we) understand shame. I've seen some people stroll in 5 minutes before the end of first class trying desperately to add.
